At Direct Order Blinds we offer customers the option to motorise their blinds. Roller blinds and Elavate blinds can both be motorised. Our motors are made by Somfy and offer an innovative system that lets you control your blinds without touching them.
The new Zigbee motor comes with even more benefits for customers, developed with comfort, ease of use, security and sustainability in mind, the Zigbee motor is designed to help make your living space as convenient and easy as possible.
It can be confusing to know how motorisation works and even more difficult to know what the differences are between the new and old motors. To help make motorisation easier to understand, we have put together a guide explaining how motorisation works and the differences between the original and new Zigbee motor.
What is the difference between the original motor and the new Zigbee motor?
The original motor could be controlled by an app and tells the user when the blind is open or closed. The new updated version offers users more information. Instead of just telling you if the blind is opened or closed, the app will tell you the battery level of the motor as well as the exact position of the blind.
For example, if your blind is open halfway, on the original motor the app would display your blind as ‘open’ and the new Zigbee motor would say ‘50%’ to indicate that the blind is open halfway.
The new motor doesn’t need a remote to be controlled and can be done using the TaHoma switch, meaning you can control your blinds from a single device. This makes the Zigbee motor great for smart homes as you can easily connect your Alexa or Google Device to the TaHoma switch and use voice control to operate your blinds.
Another new addition that comes with the Zigbee motor is increased control over the temperature of your home. A temperature sensor can be added, and your blinds can be set up to open and close when it reaches certain temperatures. For example, in the summer, as soon as the temperature inside reaches 25 degrees Celsius, your blinds close automatically, helping to avoid your home getting too warm.
The new Zigbee motor is also a great option for larger homes. If you are struggling to get signal to a blind, install a Somfy smart plug to help the signal.
It’s also possible for customers to pre-set limits on the app so it’s easy to adjust your blinds to the desired setting.
